Opening on Thursday 24th January 6-7:30pm here at Leeds Print Workshop, 88 Demonstrations showcases images produced in printmaking demonstrations over the last 10 to 12 years. The images are not prints but are the printing plates left at the end of demonstrations. Mick Welbourn realised early on in this period that if he used a similar motif in all these demonstrations that he could store the plates and later develop an exhibition or other work around that consistent motif. This is that exhibition.
Mick studied fine art at Leeds College of Art, Leeds Metropolitan University (now Leeds Beckett) and the University of Leeds. He also studied Mechanical Engineering at Huddersfield Polytechnic (now Kirklees College). He has frequently collaborated with the collective Black Dogs. He is currently the manager of the printmaking facilities at Leeds Arts University and teaches at Leeds Print Workshop. In recent years, Mick has exhibited and had residencies in Huddersfield, Leeds, London and San Antonio, Texas.
