About Leeds Print Workshop
Leeds Print Workshop is a co-operative printmaking studio based at Patrick Studios in Leeds. We aim to provide traditional printmaking facilities for people in Leeds and surrounding areas, and to maintain a vibrant, supportive, and sustainable printmaking community.
Our mission is to provide affordable facilities for members and the general public, to create opportunities to share skills, ideas and expertise, and to promote the development of safe printmaking processes with consideration for the environment.
We act with concern for our community and work towards its sustainable development through the collaborative nature of printmaking. We engage a diverse range of audiences in printmaking — including people of different ages and abilities, from hobbyists to professional creative practitioners, recent graduates, and local communities.
We recognise and value all that creativity brings to individuals, particularly in supporting mental health and wellbeing, and are committed to encouraging people to engage in the arts regardless of their background or experience.
Over the past eight years, Leeds Print Workshop has built up a large collection of donated letterpress equipment, including a wide range of metal and wood type, proofing presses, and other tools.
We’ve invested significant time and effort from our volunteers, as well as some basic restoration, to enable the delivery of our first introductory letterpress courses as part of our wider public printmaking programme. We are now looking to build on this work by creating a lasting, professional, and accessible facility for letterpress printmaking. This resource will be used by community groups, members, and for future public engagement projects.
The Role
To support the development of our growing Letterpress collection, we are seeking an experienced Letterpress Technician/Practitioner on a freelance basis. The role will involve sorting and restoring the donated equipment and helping to implement improved systems within the workshop to support both member access and public courses.
The successful applicant will have experience in using and maintaining letterpress equipment such as Adana presses, proofing presses, and other relief printing presses. A strong working knowledge of both wood type and metal type is essential. Experience delivering Letterpress workshops in community printmaking settings is desirable.
