James Bywood creates vibrant graphical interpretations of the British landscape. His work is inescapably connected to the landscape he grew up in. He was born on the edge of the Peak District in Sheffield and spent many a childhood holiday in the Lake District and Scotland. He now lives within 30 minutes of the Yorkshire Dales in Leeds. His attachment to the landscape informs everything he creates.
The screen prints exhibited here encompass a collection of James’s recent work documenting a number of his favourite places in Lake District. James says, ‘This body of work reflects my continual desire to adapt and improve my print process. Striving for perfection has driven my work in new and exciting directions recently, I’m very excited to see all the work in one place for the first time.’
James won the inaugural Hepworth Wakefield Print Fair Prize earlier in 2019. He studied Fine Art in Bristol and more recently fine-tuned his printmaking skills at Leeds College of Art. He is a founding member of Leeds Print Workshop and frequently volunteers as a technician here.
