We invited LPW member Jill McKnight to share some info about her current work and upcoming residency…
I am an artist based in Leeds with a studio at Serf, working across sculpture, writing, drawing and most recently print. I first started working in print in June 2021 while in-residence at The Art House, Wakefield, through support from the Print Studio team and completing the Introduction to Printmaking course. Soon afterwards I joined Leeds Print Workshop and since then have enjoyed lino printing on the Albion press and monoprinting on the etching press. It has been brilliant to be part of the LPW community to improve, experiment and meet other members.
I am working towards a new body of work at the moment as artist-in-residence for ‘Collections in Dialogue,’ a new co-commission project between Leeds Art Gallery and the British Library, which will culminate in an exhibition at Leeds Art Gallery from 25 March – 16 October 2022. My work has been inspired by folk songs and interviews with Leeds residents from the British Library’s audio collections and artists including Edna Lumb and Effie Hummerston in Leeds Art Gallery’s Works on Paper collection. I really hope you will get a chance to visit the show once it’s open. I also have a solo exhibition due to open this month at VITRINE Gallery, London, from 23 January – 6March 2022. The space is a 16-metre long window gallery that is viewable 24 hours a day, so if you happen to be in the area then please do check it out!
