16th April @ 10:30 am - 17th April @ 4:00 pm£120.00
Join us for a two day calligraphy and screen printing course to learn Arabic calligraphy. Tuesday 16th & Wednesday 17th April, 10:30am-4:00pm on both days.
During the first day you will learn flourishes and basic lettering, before moving onto an abstract design. You will also learn how to write your own name and some basic techniques in decorative calligraphy.
On the second day you will develop your calligraphy skills to make a screen print with an abstract design and will learn how to use layering and colour to make your own individual prints onto paper.
You’ll be guided through creating imagery for screen printing, mixing inks, exposing screens and screen printing methods.
What experience do I need?
This course is for complete beginners in calligraphy and screen printing. Those who already have some printmaking experience may find it interesting to explore some new ideas using calligraphy patterns.
What will I make?
You will create a calligraphic drawing of your own name, as well as taking away an edition of prints onto A3 paper of abstract calligraphy work.
Who is my tutor?
Hafifa Ahmed has several years experience in learning Arabic calligraphy and has gained knowledge in several different styles. Hafifa recently taught South Asian women online during covid, as well as home educated students at Young Masters visual arts school in Bradford.
Hafifa’s practice employs techniques of visual language using drawing, photographs, 3D, layering and moving image in my work. Hafifa’s concerns are text, memory, narrative and decay. Making visible the journeys that many of us can go through privately, Hafifa’s work focuses on the subtle as well as the psycho-spiritual processes.
Do I need to bring anything?
All materials and equipment will be provided for the course. If you have any of your own calligraphy pens and inks feel free to bring these along with you.
