Colour Study in Printmaking – 5 Week Course

20th June @ 6:00 pm - 18th July @ 8:30 pm

Explore colour through informative seminars, guided experiments and practical printmaking projects led by artist Ellen Burroughs. Over 5 Thursday evenings 6:00-8:30pm 20th June – 18th July, you’ll gain insight and contribute to conversation around the scientific, historical and cultural context of colour, with particular focus on certain colours. Referencing folklore, bizarre facts and psychological colour theory, through to our own emotional connections with colour- this course delves into all the complex factors that are in play when we see colour and how we can use this insight when applying it in our own art and design work. Exploring colour relationships, how to modify inks to better develop your use of colour or to colour match and how colour choices can change the way your prints are seen by others.
You will develop your knowledge and understanding of colour, contribute to discussion and complete a series of print editions using different printmaking processes including linocut, monoprinting and screen printing.

What experience do I need?

This course is suitable for beginners and for more experienced printmakers who are interested in expanding their knowledge and confidence with colour application.

What will I make?

You’ll come away from the course with a selection of different prints and artworks onto paper. These include a simple reduction lino print, a series of monoprints, a 3-colour screen print and a collage. You will also complete some colour study exercises in observation.

Who is my tutor?

Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. Leeds Print Workshop is based in a basement studio at Patrick Studios, a bespoke venue for artists operated by East Street Arts. It is wheelchair accessible, with a lift, larger than standard doors and accessible toilet facilities. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at hello@leedsprintworkshop.org to discuss any concerns you may have before booking. There is one blue badge car parking space to the side of the building on Rider Street, subject to availability.

Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
