Drypoint Intaglio Portraits

Discover the expressive art of intaglio portraiture on this one day drypoint workshop. Through a combination of drawing, observation, and printmaking, you’ll learn how to create striking portrait prints using the traditional drypoint technique.
During the workshop, you’ll explore how to translate facial features, light, and shadow into rich linear marks, developing an understanding of how drypoint can capture both likeness and character. You’ll be guided through the process of preparing a drypoint plate, using specialist tools to create expressive marks and textures, and printing your image using professional etching presses.
Experiment with line quality, tone, and composition as you build your portrait image, gaining insight into the unique qualities of intaglio printmaking. By the end of the day, you’ll have produced a small edition of original drypoint portrait prints and developed a solid introduction to this rewarding printmaking process.
