Explore the exciting process of Gelli printing on this taster session.
Printing from gelatine plates is a type of monoprinting which is instant and effective without the need for a press. Using water based inks you will explore a range of different effects from bold colourful textures to more subtle colours and patterns. You will be encouraged to overprint layers and build up interesting compositions. Gelatine plates are easy to make and print from at home and you will also be given instructions on how to make the plates so you can carry on using the skills you’ve learned.

What experience do I need?
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners. Monoprinting from gelatine plates is a fun and easy way to introduce you to some printmaking techniques. Those with previous experience may wish to use the session to develop their skills or gain tutor advice and guidance.
What will I make?
You will come away from the workshop with a wide range of different monoprints from the gelatine plates printed on A4 cartridge paper.
Who is my tutor?
Kirstie Williams is a founding member of Leeds Print Workshop. She is a practising textile artist and printmaker exploring natural colour, dyeing and printmaking. She has extensive experience delivering workshops to a wide range of audiences and communities across Leeds and West Yorkshire. She is passionate about bringing together a creative community in Leeds through the running and development of Leeds Print Workshop.
Do I need to bring anything?
All of the tools and equipment needed for gelli printing will be provided. If you have any thin objects to use as stencils or for mark making feel free to bring these along to try. Leaves, feathers, lace, packaging and stencils all work well for this process.
