Join us for a creative day of letterpress printing with our growing wood type collection.
Explore our newly made wooden typefaces, along with our collection of various donated type. Work on our traditional Albion and Imperial relief presses and our galley proofing presses to make your own edition of printed posters on cartridge papers.
You’ll learn simple techniques to set up wood type for printing and have the chance to explore creative approaches to inking the type. Along the way you’ll learn some letterpress terminology and fascinating printing stories, leaving with some colourful prints and lots of ideas for next steps.

What experience do I need?

This workshop is aimed at beginners or those who have previously attended our Letterpress Taster Day and wish to explore the process further.

Who is my tutor?

Mike Ainsworth is a printer, graphic designer, illustrator and print educator based in Leeds working under the name North or Nowt. Mike specialises in designing and creating screen printed gig posters and has previously worked with artists like Protomartyr, Shonen Knife, Admiral Fallow and Laura Jane Grace amongst many others. Mike has worked as a graphic designer for clients such as Vantage Books and M.W.Craven, as well as having 10 years’ experience in working as a print educator in higher education and as an industrial printer. A self taught letterpress printer and educator, Mike is a member of Letterpress workers (LPW) and contributor and attendee at the Letterpress Workers Summit in Milan, Italy. Mike also works for People Powered Press (Saltaire) and Thin Ice Press (York) as a printmaker and technician. 

Do I need to bring anything?

All materials and equipment will be provided on the day. You may wish to bring a small portfolio along with you to take your prints home. We also sell small portfolio folders if you wish to buy one from us.
