Natural Lake Pigments: Workshop & Demonstration

As part of the Natural Colour Atlas project, Indonesian artist Nidiya Kusmaya will lead an afternoon workshop at Leeds Print Workshop exploring the art of making and using natural lake pigments.
Drawing on her practice of working with earth pigments, plants, and natural materials in Indonesia, Nidiya will share her methods and techniques for transforming natural colours into vibrant, usable pigments.
Through demonstration and hands-on exploration, participants will learn how lake pigments are created, prepared, and used as a medium for painting and craft.
This workshop offers a chance to slow down, experiment, and connect with earth’s materials, providing an introduction to the possibilities of natural colour through Nidiya’s distinctive approach.
In addition, Nidiya will also talk through the work exhibited at Patrick Studios as part of the British Council funded project Natural Colour Atlas – developed in collaboration with Bintan Titisari and Kirstie Williams.
