Photogravure Etching
Photogravure is a beautiful photographic intaglio process which transforms photographic imagery into toned etched prints. This one day practical workshop will introduce you to the process from image preparation and plate making through to inking and printing. Your tutor will demonstrate the process and guide you through the techniques, materials and possibilities of photogravure within contemporary print practice.
What experience do I need?
This workshop is suitable for beginners with no previous experience of photogravure or intaglio printmaking. It is also suitable for artists and printmakers who already have some experience and would like to explore working with photographic imagery. You’ll be guided through each stage of the process, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions and experiment.
Who is my tutor?
Artist Hannah Prince will lead the workshop. Hannah has a particular interest in photographic print processes and will share her knowledge and experience of photogravure, including work produced during her residency with us last year. She will demonstrate the process throughout the day and support you as you develop your own print.
What will I make?
By the end of the day, you’ll have a small edition of photogravure prints and a better understanding of how you can continue to explore the process in your own practice.
Do I need to bring anything?
You will need to send us a black and white photograph you wish to use for the process in advance. We will be in touch nearer the workshop date to give you more information about the types of images which will be suitable.
