Through our commitment to building a vibrant and supportive printmaking community – sharing skills, ideas and expertise, we have broadened our engagement with young people, inspiring them to use creativity for wellbeing and personal resilience. We aim to introduce them to new skills and to develop the next generation of printmakers.
Our pilot work with this cohort has helped to shape this programme, with young people identifying their areas of interest in printmaking and the ways in which their engagement will be beneficial to their personal development.
Throughout 2024 we engaged 61 students from our local community and from across Leeds, who were interested in studying art and design subjects at college or university.
As well as developing technical skills in printmaking, the sessions help to develop communication skills, teamwork, problem solving and self-confidence. This offers a unique opportunity to work with experienced printmaking tutors and gain an insight into a professional creative organisation.
We are currently seeking funding to continue offering either after school sessions or holiday clubs to continue the momentum we have established in 2024.
